Iron Horse: 2014 HD Tri Glide

Hello my name is Clarence W. “Heavy” Thornton Jr. I’m retired from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. I am presently the Chaplain of the LRBSTMC, and my horse is a 2011 Harley Davidson Tri Glide. I started my journey in the U.S. Army as a 19D Cavalry Scout in the Cavalry where I served in numerous units (1/9 Cav.-3/5Cav.-9th CBAA -11th ACR-3rd AD- 4/23 Inf.) across the US and oversees. But most prestigious having actively served as a Buffalo Soldier in the 9th Cavalry; in which I was awarded numerous awards along with The Order of the Spur from my peers in the Cavalry.

I wanted to share my most recent trip where I had a great 3982 mile adventure!  I departed my residence on 13 July 2015 to surprise my “Lady” who was vacationing in Los Angeles, CA.   I picked her up on my Harley Davidson for a romantic getaway in Las Vegas. Then I flew her back to California so I could ride on to Albuquerque, New Mexico for our National convention.  I returned home to Arkansas on 26 July 2015. As we say, It’s All Good!

A ride for true die-hards LDR members Andrey ” Kotofey ” Kochetor, Anna ” Lilith ” Orlova and Dmitriy ” Zeliboba ” Fedotov set off on a ride From Moscow to “Altes Elefantentreffen”.

Andrey said “We had a long cold trip to oldest european winter motorcycle meeting “Altes Elefantentreffen”.
We rode a Harley-Davidson FLHTK (2012) from press park of official H-D dealer in Russia. Our friends built the sidecar from old russian motorcycle “IZH”.
It was my idea and my wife Anna wanted ride too. We always ride together. Also my colleague Dmitriy wanted ride with us.
First day was a hard day. It was a day for the certification of our ride. We rode the long way from Moscow to Berlin (Germany) for 27 hour. It was 1900 km, completing the LDR Full Throttle designation, 1610 km in 24 Hours. We met with friends, and rode 300-500 km a day. But it was no sunny summer weather! Full trip time is 10 days and 5300 km.
For what? It is interesting because not all can do it!”

Long Distance Riders Peter Vald rode a VFR 750K Honda, Bjarne Sorensen rode a BMW K100RS, Jan Villadsen rode a BMW 1100RT and Freddy Nielsen rode a VZR 1800 Suzuki on their 1610 km Full Throttle ride traveling from Denmark to southern France.

This was the start of a much bigger ride. Below are some pictures I took throughout my trip. The total mileage of the entire trip was 9148 miles in 18 days. I will be going for a 1500 mile day sometime later this year.

Congratulations to Valery Bondarenko on his 805 km Easy Rider and 1610 km Full Throttle ride through Russia, riding on his Honda GL 1800.

Nikolay Pasechnyk completed the 500 mile Easy Rider, the 1000 mile Full Throttle and the 1500 mile King of the Road in 36 hours. He rode his Honda XRV-750 a total of 1525 miles in less than 36 hours. He began his ride in Temryuk, Russia and finished in Sim, Russia
